On my friends 2017 Chevy Silverado. The rubbing occurs when at maximum turn angles but damn that control arm is polished silver and starting to get a nice grove. They have even been rotated a few times too and nobody has said a word.   The tire and wheel package came from les Schwab. He’s had them on for 16,000 miles. I looked because the tires sound terrible on the highway, then noticed the wear marks on the control arm. There is some cupping but WHO THE FUCK THOUGHT THOSE WHEELS AND TIRES would be okay?

I told him to take the truck to les schwab and play the safety card. He should get new wheels and tires out of this...

This should be the correct answer.

I would agree. I’m curious to see what the tire shop says.

Les Schwab has screwed up enough that I’m not even willing to stop in for a free flat repair at this point (plus there’s no longer free, wildly over- salted popcorn in the waiting area ).

I hope your bud holds their feet to the fire & they don’t mess up anything else while fixing their fuckups.

I do hope that les Schwab makes it right. I’ve always had em do right by me...I’ve got a lot of faith in  them as a company.

My one and only experience with Les Schwab was them giving my Ranger a legit last minute alignment job while I was 2,000 miles from home. They did amazing work and even stayed open a little longer so I can pick it up.

I reckon someone didn’t properly measure backspacing on the aftermarket wheels. I made the same mistake when I was turning the Festiva into a kart. Only, it took me just a mile to realize something was “fucky”. lol As it was a Gambler car I just bought spacers then sent it.

You would not believe how often were fixing shit that les schwab screwed up. Most of the people they employee are not mechanics, they get trained on the job on how to do tires and brakes, and I'm using the word "trained" very loosely. There are a lot of these shops around me. They're one step above jiffy lube.

You would think that their computer would tell them if a wheel has the correct back spacing... anyway this shop is so so at tires and wheels but their alignment guy has been there for ever and is top notch, if he was doing tires and wheels they wouldn’t have these issues.

It’s possible they strayed from what the computer said, or the algorithm is super generic and not quite right for every vehicle.

They definitely employee some people who are decent, and overall they’re fine for most people and most cars. But start getting away from really common stuff and things can get real iffy. What really drives me nuts is that they try to upsell everyone on siping (I hate aftermarket siping, but that’s a very very long list of reasons) and they always want to sell people calipers with pads and rotors. I've replaced maybe three Mercedes calipers in the eight years I've been with Benz, and two of those were from outside influence (accident damage, and idiot mechanic damage). So then their crap ass parts end up costing twice as much as using quality MB parts because they're replacing stuff that doesn't need to be replaced, and their crap ass parts are noisy and rust really fast. Also not a fan of toyo tires, unless we're taking open countries.

Y ou know what really girnds my gears? They rotated the tires three times and didn’t say a damn thing about the tire rub on the control arm... I could see it just standing there with the wheel still on, thats unacceptable.

And the caliper thing... I went in for rear brakes on my subaru and they wanted to put on new calipers on a car that was 2 years old so I laughed out loud then left. That was a last straw for me.

They’re not trained enough or paid enough to notice or care.

My old F150 came from the factory with 255/70R 16 tires on styled steel wheels. I put a set of 17" Ford F150 OEM alloy wheels on the truck with 265/70R17 tires and one of the front tires rubbed on the control arm at full lock. When those tire wore out, I switched to 255/65R17 and the problem disappeared. The factory OEM tires for the 17" alloys was 255/70R17. Ten millimeters sometimes make a huge  difference.
